While some men may be agreeing with Tokyo Olympics chief Yoshiro Mori saying women talk too much in meetings, Whitney Wolfe Herd’s success has proved that filling a boardroom with more women is the way to go. The co-founder of the dating app Bumble – has made a mark as the youngest-ever CEO to take a company public this week at Nasdaq yesterday (Feb. 11).  

Bumble puts women first – The company catering to women and led by women has made its 31-year-old female founder a rare billionaire and the third female-founded firm to IPO in the past year – selling more shares and at a higher price than initially expected, valuing the company at $8.3 billion.

Whitney’s speaking up about harassment spurred the creation of Bumble. While a co-founder of the now competitor Tinder, she was repeatedly called derogatory names by executives and stripped of her co-founder role since having a “girl” with that title “makes the company seem like a joke.” The suit was later settled.

Did you know that female-founded companies generated more revenue and were significantly more capital efficient? (Source: Kauffman Foundation, Mass Challenge, and BCG). Sadly, only 3% of venture capital dollars go to startups founded by women. 

Will “Whitney’s success help further the case for investing in businesses that serve a female audience or that are founded by women?

When Bianca and I discussed her Personal Brand, she was in the process of expansion: both in her personal life and business. Since her photoshoot over a year ago, Bianca launched her website and has been growing her business despite the pandemic. Her brand is fresh, inspiring, and I absolutely support and love the beautiful work she does. I have the opportunity to see Bianca perform as a vocalist, play harmonium, and sing, and I have also attended a women’s circle where she created a wonderful atmosphere for healing, community, and sisterhood.

Her vision to build a community-centered in collaboration, support, and empowerment drew me right in from the beginning.

My Personal Brand Essence Extraction Process

After Interviewing Bianca, reviewing her Brand Questionnaire, and getting to know Bianca better, I started to curate her Personal Brand photoshoot which took place on Long Island, NY.

What I learned about Bianca is that is a passionate entrepreneur and artist. What you see is what you get! Beauty, strength, power, transparency, and the desire to serve others. 

• She is a seasoned performing artist who sings, dances, plays the guitar and the harmonium;
• She is committed to teaching yoga effectively (understanding the body and mind connection and delivering a message that inspires a person to commit and integrate the practice into their daily lives) 
• She facilitates spaces for healing via movement, breathwork, sound healing, touch, and dialogue.  
• She loves hiking, being in nature, swimming in the ocean, and reading
• She is extroverted, confident, assertive, powerful, quirky, and intuitive.

Creative Direction of The Photoshoot

Based on her future goals which included hosting more retreats in exotic locations and goddess parties, I found a “secret location” right here on Long Island, NY. Our location was sacred… a gift from a goddess to another, perfect for all that we had envisioned.

Theme:  Sensual Goddess

Context: being in one with nature and herself, embodying the goddess energy, singing, playing harmonium, and dancing. 

Mood: joy, pleasure, connectedness

Wardrobe: yoga/ belly dance costume, nude

Props: Harmonium, red sheer fabric

Makeup: Ali Long Island Hair and Makeup

Location: One secret location

 Luna: Why did you say YES to working with me?

You are captivating.  You truly embody the divine in your ability to be present with me. You listen and have helpful insights to offer.

Luna: In which ways was your Branding Experience with me helpful in making a difference in your business?

Before working with you, I  wasn’t clear on the message that my brand delivers.

After working with you in our photoshoot I felt an immediate shift in my state of mind and being.  Feeling foggy and uncertain before, now feeling a sense of empowerment and clarity.  The photos we captured have been really useful in marketing and social media content.

Since we have completed our photoshoot, what result are you most thrilled with?

My online image finally matches my skill level!

I just love the moments we captured and cannot wait to share more of them once my website is up and running.

I love being in front of the camera.  It feeds me energy and I feel alive and powerful.

When you look at your brand photos, how do you feel? Did they capture what you want them to convey?

Yes!  Again, I feel empowered by them.  They show my eroticism, my beauty, and my strength.  They say you are beautiful and capable in all the ways that God made you.

What are people missing out on if they choose not to work with me?

They are missing out on your presence, your love, and your dedication.  You are truly a gift to the world Carolina.  You show up 100% for people.

Is there anything you would like to add? I am all ears…

A few volunteer parents from our school district, here on Long Island, NY,  created the ADOPT A SENIOR Facebook Group. Anyone could join to give the graduates another family to cheer them on.  Adopting a high school senior comes in the form of prayers, cards, gift baskets, support, etc. I decided to adopt 14 of them! My gift: photography.

“It was very special because we probably won’t have a normal graduation with the rest of our classmates and teachers. Taking pictures now since we probably won’t have that is something I am very grateful to be able to do. It shows that graduation and the cap and gown are still extremely special and an accomplishment, even though we might not get a “normal” graduation ceremony.”, says Nicole Serravillo, one of the seniors graduating from Connetquot High School.

For my adoptees, It all started with the adoption of Nicole, who has been photographed by me many times over the past few years as a client. Her mom, Michelle, makes sure she hires me for every special occasion. Nicole’s best friends also wanted to be in the photos, then I added them and this group of 9 was a ton of fun! Don’t you wish you had such memories with your High School best friends?

And what a joy it feels to give back, with memories that will last forever! Plus, I don’t get to photograph families so much anymore, as I rebranded as a Personal Branding Photographer and Coach for Entrepreneurs.

But I can just imagine how frustrating it must have been for these kids not to have a proper end of the school year, with Prom and Graduation Ceremonies as usual. It is such a milestone and representation of moving to adulthood.  but luckily for these seniors, a lot of families joined the group, to make this momentous time is nothing but memorable as it should be. This is the power of the community.

So here is my first 9 adopted T-Bird Seniors from Nicole’s group: Nicole Serravillo, Giana Messina, Alanah Amarando, Sophia Boccadifuoco, Diana Migliosi, Julia Patsos, Erin Rocovich, Summer Daley and Emma Littieri.

“Growing up all we all pictured walking across the graduation stage and going to our senior proms with the people we have been with since we were 5. It is so weird that this is the new normal and we have to accept the fact that we will not get to walk across that stage with our family and friends watching, which is very hard for an 18 year old girl about to move to a new state to start a new journey. For me, it is hard to start a new journey without closing the previous one. Connetquot has become like one big family to me and I will forever cherish all of the memories I have had there. It is extremely hard not being able to have a “normal” senior year due to the pandemic but I have said to myself everything happens for a reason. I think that this has made myself and the class of 2020 stronger than most. We have had to deal with these crazy circumstances and I never thought my senior year would have to end this way but I think that everything happens for a reason and it will bring the class of 2020 together even more. Connetquot has done a great job at making us feel special by coming with buses and many administrators and teachers to hand us our caps and gowns. I will forever miss Connetquot and the people but I feel this is a graduation we will never forget.”

Lauren is getting ready to elevate her Personal Brand, so she came to me for new photos of herself for a quick headshot update while she is the process of re-branding and adding business coaching to her offerings.

What I discovered from Lauren is that she started her career as a Pharmaceutical rep., which led her to enjoy financial abundance and success at a young age. Despite her success, Lauren’s relentless spirit and desire for more freedom landed her in the beauty industry, where she found realization artistically and was able to start a new life and business.   Lauren has over 17 years of experience in the Beauty Industry and you can often find her in production sets or working with brides on weekends, to make them look “pinned and proper” – her brand on Insta.

Lauren has won many hairstyling and vendor related awards. You can often catch her behind the scenes at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and Bridal fashion week in New York City with some of the industry’s best beauty and fashion experts.

Lauren’s passion for styling and her desire to understand the needs of her clients have helped her succeed in the industry and differentiate herself from other professionals.

That is why Lauren is one of my chosen, and favorite, makeup artists to work with.

We are going to put Lauren on a hot seat here, where I have asked some questions about her photoshoot experience with me. I do this with every client and I expect real and raw answers. I am a sucker for vulnerability and authenticity, so here it goes!

Q&A with Carolina Luna and Lauren Decosimo on feeling “Fearless, Confident, and Strong”

During the session, I focus on helping Lauren to use her WHY, the reason she is so passionate about what she does, to carry the energy throughout the photoshoot, and to make her feel empowered to achieve her goals of showing up more Fearlessly, Confidently, and Strong.  After the shoot, she answered a questionnaire I give all of my clients to get feedback.

Prior to stepping in front of my lens, we have an in-depth conversation. To me, this gives me a greater understanding of their personality, goals for the usage of the photos, and their fears. Yes, their fears or insecurities… it could be anything from “I never look good in photos” to a deep ” fear of visibility” that prevents them from showing up fully on social media.

Carolina: What was your biggest frustration/struggle with your brand before working with me?

Lauren: Trying to find my voice speak to my audience. Not focused on my client and what I bring to the table.

Carolina: Why did you say YES to working with me?

Lauren: Because I love your spirit and how you make me feel comfortable.

Carolina: In which ways was your Branding Experience with me helpful in making a difference in your business?

Lauren: It opened me up to possibilities and it will help me express my core values and beliefs because the photos show those feelings that relate. Verses my normal serious look.

Carolina: What was the biggest “Take-away”, “A-ha” moment, “Insight”, or “awareness”, that you had about yourself or about your business during this entire process?

Lauren: It’s ok to let go and have fun. Not everything is perfect.

Carolina: Since we have completed our photoshoot, what result are you most thrilled with?

Lauren: The experience. It was more than I expected. The end result! I love my photos.

Carolina: When you look at your brand photos, how do you feel? Did they capture what you want them to convey?

Lauren: Yes! And then some. I’m excited and relieved and more informed.

The whole experience was enlightening.
